Bears Defeat St. John’s, 4-1, in First Round of ECAC Team Championships

HANOVER, NH – Seeded sixth for the 2012 ECAC Team Championships, the Brown men's tennis team (7-2) rebounded from a pair of tough losses last week in Tennessee to earn a 4-1 win over third-seeded St. John's (4-2) on Friday morning. With their first round win, the Bears will now face either second seeded Cornell or seventh seeded Columbia in the Semifinals at 3:00 p.m. Saturday.

Brown won the doubles point with wins at all three positions and then went on to claim singles wins at #3, #4, and #6. Matches at #2 and #5 were not completed after the final result of the match had been decided by virtue of Brown's four points.

The Bears were led by freshman William Spector (Weston, MA), junior Mike Hill (Topsham, ME) and sophomore Sam Fife (Scarsdale, NY), who each won in both singles and doubles.
