Bears Open 2012 Spring Season With Three Dominating Wins

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Brown men's tennis team (3-0) opened its spring season with three dominating wins, defeating Buffalo, 5-2, and defeating both Boston University and Colgate, 7-0. In Saturday's wins over Buffalo and BU, Brown utilized its depth in singles to get wins from eight different players, including freshman Michael Riechmann (Houston, TX) and sophomore Sam Fife (Scarsdale, NY), who won against both Buffalo and BU.

In Sunday's match against the Raiders, Brown was dominant throughout the lineup, winning five of the six matches in straight sets, while dropping just 13 total games at the top five positions.

In all, Riechmann, Fife, freshman Daniel Hirschberg (Westport, CT), freshman William Spector (Weston, MA), freshman Jacob Laser (Glencoe, IL), and junior Timmy Klanke (Potomac, MD) all won two singles matches. Sophomore Brandon Burke (Kingston, Jamaica) led Brown in doubles action, winning all three of his matches, all of which were played with a different partner. Sophomore Soufiane Azargui (Burlington, ONT), junior Mike Hill (Topsham, ME), Fife and Spector all also won two doubles matches.

The Bears continue action this weekend when they host Binghamton and Bryant in a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 10:00 a.m. Brown will host Quinnipiac at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 5th.
