Bears Drop Second Straight 4-3 Decision, Fall to #61 Penn

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Brown men's tennis team (13-4, 0-2) dropped its second straight 4-3 decision on Saturday afternoon, falling to #61 Penn (11-3, 1-2) at the Bears' outdoor courts. Brown won the doubles point with wins at #1 and #3 and then had senior Kendrick Au (St. John's, New Foundland) and freshman Soufiane Azargui (Burlington, ONT) win in singles. The match came down to the #2 singles position where Penn claimed a tight, three-set win, for the victory.

The Bears went up, 1-0, with a pair of doubles wins at #1 and #3. Azargui and freshman Brandon Burke (Kingston, Jamaica) won 8-5 at #1 and senior Charlie Posner (Cambridge, MA) and freshman Sam Fife (Scarsdale, NY) earned an 8-4 win at #3.

After Penn tied the score at 1-1 with a win at #5, the Bears earned a pair of straight set wins at #4 (Au – 6-1, 6-3) and #6 (Azargui – 6-4, 6-1) to grab a 3-1 lead.

A straight set win by the Quakers at #1 made the score 3-2 and then another Penn win, in three sets, tied the score at 3-3. Penn clinched the victory with a 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (6) win at #2.

The Bears return to action next weekend at Cornell (Saturday) and Columbia (Sunday).
