Bears in Second after Day 1 of Brown Invitational

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown men's swimming and diving team is in second place after the first day of competition of the Brown Invitational with 252 points. Princeton leads the four-team field with 392 points, while UMass is in third with 200 points. UNH rounds out the field with 70 points.

Brown started the day with a second place finish in the 200 Free Relay, as the team of sophomore Kevin Hug (Tampa, FL), sophomore Brian Kelly (Weston, MA), senior Eric Brumberg (Sewell, NJ), and senior Brian Sharkey (Fords, NJ) swam a time of 1:24.11.

Sophomore Peter Volosin (Roanoke, VA) swam a time of 4:43.44 in the 500 Free to finish in fifth place, while Brumberg took first in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.75. Sharkey won the 50 Free with a time of 21.34, while Hug took second in the event with a time of 21.39.

The team of Brumberg, sophomore Grant Garcia (Mercer Island, WA), freshman Richard Alexander (Victoria, BC), and Sharkey rounded out the day with a second place finish in the 400 Medley Relay, earning a time of 3:28.73.

The Bears continue action tomorrow, December 3, with the following events: 200 Medley Relay, 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, 800 Free Relay. Prelims begin at 11:00 a.m. with the finals set for 7:00 p.m.
