Bears Fall to Yale, 186-114

NEW HAVEN, CT - The Brown men's swimming and diving team (1-7, 1-6) dropped a 186=114 decision to Yale in its final regular-season meet of year and a final tune-up before the 2009 EISL Championships, to be held March 5-7 at Princeton. The Bears won six events on the day, including two wins each for junior CJ Kambe (Unionville, CT) and sophomore Ryan Kikuchi (Temecula, CA).

Kambe opened the meet by winning the 3-Meter dive with a 309.22

Next up was a second place finish in the 200 Medley Relay for the team of freshman John Gayton (Bettendorf, IA), sophomore Conor Carlucci (New City, NY), junior Daniel Ricketts (Baltimore, MD), and senior Benjamin Zlotoff (Woodbridge, CT), which earned a time of 1:32.72.

Kikuchi then picked up his first victory of the day, earning a time of 9:36.89 in the 1000 Free. Junior Tucker Wetmore (Weston, MA) led the Bears in the 200 Free with a time of 1:43.40, good for second, while Gayton earned a time of 51.36 in the 100 back to finish in fourth. Senior Brett McCrae (Pepper Pike, OH) was Brown's top finisher in the 100 breast, earning second with a time of 58.37. Freshman David Chanin (Studio City, CA) led Brown in the 200 fly, earning fourth with a time of 1:54.71.

Ricketts then picked up a win for the Bears, posting a time of 20.95 in the 50 Free, while Kambe followed with his second victory of the day, posting a score of 278.10 in the 1-meter dive.

Ricketts led Brown in the 100 Free, claiming second place with a time of 45.71, while Kikuchi earned second in the 200 Back with a time of 1:51.92 to lead the Bears. McCrae earned third place in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:08.77 to lead Brown in that event, while Chanin was Brown's top scorer in the 500 Free, earning fourth with a time of 4:45.27. Ricketts led Brown in the 100 Fly, earning third place with a time of 51.29.

Brown won the final two events of the day, as Kikuchi earned his second victory with a time of 1:53.49 in the 200 IM and the team of Zlotoff, senior Richard Alexander (Victoria, BC), junior Trent Huxley (Bellevue, WA), and Wetmore posted a time of 3:09.22 in the 400 Free Relay.
