Brad Corona '04 and Breck Bailey '06 teamed up this past weekend to compete in the National Intercollegiate Doubles Championship held in Manhattan, NY. Corona, a natural hardball player, and Bailey, a National Junior Doubles Champion, proved to be a formidable team.
Seeded number 2 in a field of 16 teams, Corona / Bailey breezed into the semifinals without dropping a game. In their quarterfinal match, the Brown team defeated a talented squad from Dartmouth 17-16, 15-12, 15-10.
In the semifinal match, Brown was eventually defeated by a finely tuned Trinity team in a hotly contested match. Coly Smith and Pat Malloy, representing Trinity, defeated the Brown squad in three close games in which the final two games were won by a margin of only two points.
Corona, Bailey, and the rest of the Brown squad are back in action in a crucial match against Cornell on Saturday, January 16 at noon.
