Bears Earn Thrilling 6-3 Win Over Amherst

Amherst, Mass. - The Brown men's squash team captured its first match of the season, earning a thrilling 6-3 victory over Amherst College Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Daniel Petrie (Cincinnati, OH) got the ball rolling for the Bears with a 9-2, 10-9, 9-2 win at number one before a raucous crowd. After losses at two and three, senior Patrick Haynes (Bacova, VA) captured a hard-fought 10-8, 9-5, 9-6 decision at number four.

Junior North Whipple (lake Forest, IL) continued Brown's dominance with a 9-6, 1-9, 9-5, 9-6 win at number five, followed by freshman Patrick Davis (Philadelphia, PA) rallying for a 4-9, 9-1, 9-0, 1-9, 9-3 victory at the sixth position.

The Bears also received wins from sophomore Jacob Winkler (Portland, OR) at number seven (9-2, 9-2, 9-6) and freshman Alex Heitzman (Rehoboth, MA), who captured a marathon 2-9, 9-6, 4-9, 9-7 victory at number nine.
