Providence, RI - After a huge 3-2 victory over the Princeton Tigers on Saturday evening, junior midfielder Nick Elenz-Martin (Encinitas, CA) earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors, while Jay Hayward (Acton, MA) received Rookie of the Week honors.
With the Bears down 2-1 in the second half, Elenz-Martin came up big for the Brown men's soccer team (8-2-1, 2-0-0) by scoring two goals en route to the squad's 3-2 victory over the Tigers. Elenz-Martin's first goal came in the 60th minute of play to the tie game, 2-2. Just as when it looked like the game could go into overtime, the junior struck again with just three minutes remaining in the game to give Bruno a 3-2 lead and win the game.
Receiving his first collegiate start on Saturday night, Hayward, played a huge role in Brown's win on Saturday. Hayward picked up his first collegiate assist just 19 seconds into the second half when teammate Iain Eldredge (Cumberland, ME) tied the game, 1-1. Princeton took a 2-1 lead at the 53 minute mark, but just seven minutes later the freshman notched his second assist of the season when Elenz-Martin tied the game, 2-2.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 18 when they take on Harvard at Stevenson Field at 7:00 p.m.
