Providence, RI - Despite the cancellation of the KickAIDS 3v3 Youth World Cup Fundraiser, the Brown Men's Soccer team will host "Soccer RI Night" this Saturday when the Bears take on the URI Rams at 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson Field. Numerous events and promotions will take place prior to and during the game to raise funds and awareness for Grassroots Soccer, an organization that provides African youth with the knowledge, skills and support to live HIV free.
In conjunction with these efforts, players from both Brown and Rhode Island will wear special adidas® game jerseys during their match - the Bears in red, the Rams in yellow - and these jerseys will be auctioned and raffled off that evening.
Funds raised will benefit Grassroots Soccer, a global AIDS prevention organization, which teams up with soccer stars to deliver prevention messages to children in the world's most HIV affected countries. Ethan Zohn, TV series Survivor star and co-founder of Grassroots Soccer is scheduled to make an appearance at the game.
Zohn is in the midst of a 500-mile Dribble Campaign - which began in Foxboro, MA and will culminate in Washington D.C. on December 1 - to raise money and awareness for Grassroots Soccer.
All youth soccer players wearing a soccer jersey will be admitted for free to the Brown vs. URI game. Youth players who had registered for the KickAIDS 3v3 Youth World Cup Fundraiser will be given full refunds.
