Nearly every game last season was the same for Jeff Larentowicz: get suited up, sit on the bench as a reserve, watch his New England Revolution teammates compete.
Each week he'd think that maybe this was the game he would get in. But New England coach Steve Nicol called Larentowicz's number just once last year, and he got into the game in the 89th minute -- hardly a big accomplishment when you consider games are 90 minutes.
The 6-foot-1 defender did get to play as captain of the reserve team, facing other team's developing players, which gave him a chance to show the Revs coaching staff what he could do outside of the practice pitch. This year began in much the same way, though Larentowicz, yet another top player from coach Mike Noonan's Brown program, took giant strides in the offseason.
