Providence, RI - In the 2007 MLS Super Draft today, Brown men's soccer player, Andrew Daniels '07, was picked fifth in the second round by FC Dallas.
Daniels, a first team All-Ivy League selection in 2005 and 2006, was also named to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region second team this year and earned a spot on the Academic All-Ivy squad.
"Andrew had an outstanding performance as a central defender in the MLS combine last weekend in Ft. Lauderdale," said Brown men's soccer coach Michael Noonan. "His versatility really improved his draft position,"
As a forward, Daniels finished the 2006 season as Brown's leading scorer with eight goals and four assists, while also tallying two game-winning goals. He helped the Bears to a third-place finish in the Ivy League, as well as to the Division I NCAA Tournament.
Daniels undoubtedly had one of his best performances during the first-round of the NCAA tournament against Adelphi at Stevenson Field on Nov. 11. In Brown's 4-1 victory that afternoon, Daniels recorded his first career hat trick to place Brown against Duke. The Bears ended their season in a 2-0 loss to the Blue Devils in Durham, NC on Nov. 15.
Besides being named to the first team All-Ivy in 2005, Daniels also garnered a spot on the second team All-New England team that year. In 2004, he received All-Ivy honorable mention.
FC Dallas is coached by Steve Morrow and will open the 2007 MLS season against Real Salt Lake in Salt Lake City, on April 7 at 5 p.m. (CT).
