Bears End Regular Season in 1-0 Loss to Yale

Nov. 3, 2006

Providence, RI - Despite a valiant effort by the Brown men's soccer team (10-4-3,3-2-2) in the final minutes of the game, the Bears weren't able to pick up a win on Friday's senior night as they fell to Yale University (7-9-1,3-4) in a 1-0 competition.

Both Brown and Yale played tough defense, as the Bears recorded only two shots in the first period while the Bulldogs had just three. Yale's first and only goal of the night came with just 1:32 remaining in the half off a cross from Max Rhodes to Alex Munns putting Yale ahead 1-0. The goal by Munns marked his fifth of the season.

The Bears weren't going to give up, as they came out firing on all cylinders in the second half. Brown fired eight shots, but Yale goalkeeper Erik Geiger played well picking up five saves for the night.

Brown had many chances in the second half, especially with 12 minutes to go on the game clock. Senior Andrew Daniels (Milwaukee, WI) crossed the ball to sophomore Dylan Sheehan (Wolfville, Nova Scotia) who just missed the ball with his head.

More great scoring opportunities came with just minutes remaining in the game. Junior Kevin Davies (Port Washington, NY) and sophomore Stephen Sawyer (Coppell, TX) both took shots during a scramble in the box, but nothing could slide by Geiger in the goal.

Brown goalkeeper Jarrett Leech recorded four saves in his 90 minutes of play and now has ended the regular season with a 7-3-3 record. He has 66 saves on the season.

Yale outshot Brown 12-10, but the Bears had the advantage in corner kicks at 7-3. Brown picked up 20 fouls during the game as Yale accumulated 17.
