Providence, RI - The 11th ranked Brown men's soccer team continued its dominance in the Ivy League with a 1-0 victory over defending Ivy champion Penn on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Stevenson Field. The Bears dominated the game, out-shooting the Quakers 19-11 overall and 15-4 in the opening half. Freshman Brian Joyce (Silver Spring, MD) recorded the winning goal, the first of his career, late in the first half.
Sophomore Brian Perry (Manlius, NY), trapped between two defenders inside the box, passed back to Joyce and the freshman found the back of the net on a low shot from 25 yards out. The goal proved to be the game-winner as the Bears recorded their fourth league shutout in five games. Junior goalkeeper Chris Gomez (Bellflower, CA) along with the Brown defense has allowed just one goal total in all five of its league contests. Gomez posted eight saves in his 12th career shutout tonight.
Up next for Brown will be Yale next Saturday, Nov. 8 in New Haven. Game time is set for 4 p.m. Brown can capture the Ivy title with a win. The Elis stand in second behind Brown with a 4-1 league mark.
