Ithaca, NY - The #8 Brown men's soccer team (10-1-1, 3-0-0) defeated the Cornell Big Red, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at Berman Field. The Bears picked up their fourth consecutive victory overall, and third straight Ivy League win (3-0 Ivy).
The Bears came out hot as they dominated the Big Red in the first half, out shooting Cornell, 11-1. Just nine minutes into the match, the Bears opened up the scoring when junior forward Dylan Sheehan (Wolfville, NS) received a quick pass from freshman Jon Okafor (Verona, NJ) and nailed one into the back of the net just six yards out.
Although no other goals were scored in the first half, the second made up for it and saw three more goals. Bruno scored again at the 63 minute mark when senior Rhett Bernstein (San Diego, CA) headed the ball into the goal after a corner kick by junior Darren Howerton (Northboro, MA) to make the score 2-0.
Just seven minutes later, freshman David Walls (West Yorkshire, England) crossed the ball from the right side to Okafor who blasted one past Cornell's Luca Cerretani to increase Bruno's lead to 3-0.
The Big Red finally got on the scoreboard at the 75 minute mark when Dan McKallagat drove a free kick from 20 yards out past Brown's goalkeeper, Paul Grandstrand (Orono, MN).
The Bears outshot Cornell 19-4, and led the game in corner kicks, 8-3. Grandstrand got the win in goal tonight with one save, and continues to be unbeaten with a 7-0-1 record. Up next, the Bears will host Penn on Oct. 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson Field.
