Men's Soccer Shuts-Out Providence 2-0
Oct. 15, 2002
Providence, RI - The Brown men's soccer team picked up its first home win of the season, shutting out Providence College 2-0 Tuesday evening. Senior Eduardo Romaneiro (North Brunswick, NJ) scored both goals for Brown. Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Gomez (Bellflower, CA) recorded his second shutout of the season. The win improves the Bears to 4-3-3 on the season. Providence College falls to 4-9-0 on the season.
Brown took an early lead at the 7:29 mark when sophomore Jeff Larentowicz (West Chester, PA) found Romaneiro in the right corner. Romaneiro sent a rocket into the left corner for his second goal of the season.
Despite two early shots, Providence went on to out-shoot the Bears 9-3 in the first half. Gomez kept the Friars off the board with a diving stop on a high shot by the Friars' Mauricio Solano.
The second half remained scoreless until Romaneiro picked up his second goal of the game with two minutes remaining. Romaneiro chipped the ball past Providence goalie Jeff Newman after freshman Keith Caldwell (Braintree, MA) lobbed the ball to him on a breakaway.
Gomez posted nine saves for the fifth shutout of his career. Newman recorded seven saves for the Friars.
Brown continues action on Friday Oct. 18 when the Bears will travel to Princeton to take on the Tigers at 7:30 p.m.
