Thompson's Goal Leads Brown to 1-0 Victory Over Bryant

Oct. 7, 2008

Providence, RI - Junior forward T.J. Thompson (Atkinson, NH) scored his first goal of the 2008 season to help the Brown men's soccer team (7-2-1, 1-0-0 Ivy) to a 1-0 win over the visiting Bryant Bulldogs (1-12-1) on Tuesday evening at Stevenson Field.

The Bears came out aggressive from the start, posting 10 shots in the first half. Thompson fired in a shot past Bryant's Andrew Snell (0-3-0) just 10 minutes into the game after receiving a pass from freshman Sean Rosa (Montreal, Quebec), who checked in just a minute before.

Brown had multiple scoring opportunities throughout the game, but all went just high or off to the side. Junior Darren Howerton (Northboro, MA) had a season-high five shots tonight, with one being on goal. In the 63rd minute of play, Howerton booted one in from the top of the box, but it just missed and hit the post. Thompson tallied the second most shots tonight with four, as the Bears ended the game with 19 total shots to Bryant's 12.

Sophomore goalkeeper Paul Grandstrand (Orono, MN) earned his second victory of the season, improving his record to 2-2-0 on the year. Grandstrand earned two saves in net tonight, while Bryant's Snell earned five saves.

The Bears are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 11, when they travel to Princeton, NJ, to take on the Tigers at 7:00 p.m.
