Oct. 6, 2001

NEW YORK, NY - Junior Evan Ryan (Guilford, CT) scored nine minutes into the first overtime period to give Brown (3-5, 1-0 Ivy) a thrilling 1-0 victory at Columbia on Saturday in their first Ivy League game of the season.

Ryan's goal, which came from 10 yards out in the middle of the box, was assisted by junior Edu (North Brunswick, NJ) and senior captain Adam Buchanan (Chandler, AZ). The golden goal was notched on one of the very few scoring opportunities for the Bears, who had eight shots to that point in the game.

The win came in the Bear's third consecutive overtime game. Brown was defeated in overtime by San Diego State on September 30 and URI on October 3.

In goal for the Bears was freshman Chris Gomez (Bellflower, CA) who had two saves in the game. With the victory, Gomez earned his second career shutout for Brown.

The Bears return to action on Tuesday, October 9, when they will play at Providence in a non-league game at 3:00 p.m.
