Men's Soccer Falls 2-1 to San Diego St. in Overtime

In a thrilling contest on Sunday afternoon at the San Diego Tournament, the men's soccer team was defeated 2-1 by San Diego State with five seconds remaining in the first overtime period.

Enrique Tovar netted the game winner at 104:55, just five seconds before the expiration of the first overtime period.

San Diego State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half at 9:59 when Kevin Sapanli got the ball past Brown freshman goalkeeper Chris Gomez (Bellflower, CA).

The Bears responded in the second half when senior midfielder Pablo Quintanilla (Ballwin, MO) scored at 49:37 to knot the game at 1-1. The goal was Quintanilla's third of the season. Juniors Omar Macedo (South Gate, CA) and Edu (North Brunswick, NJ) picked up assists on the play.

Gomez, who made his third career start in net for the Bears, had three saves on the afternoon.

Brown dropped their first game of the tournament 2-0 to San Diego on Friday night. The Bears fall to a record of (2-4) with the pair of losses. The men's soccer team will be back in action on Wednesday, October 3, when they will host the Rhode Island Rams in a 7:00 p.m. game at Stevenson Field.
