Sept. 30, 2003
Providence, RI - The 15th ranked Brown men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Boston University on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Stevenson Field. Despite out-shooting the Terriers 16-9, BU was able to score two unanswered goals in the first half to take the victory. It marked the first time this season Brown did not score a goal as it falls to 4-3 overall on the season.
Junior goalkeeper Chris Gomez (Bellflower, CA) kept the 0-0 deadlock in place 19 minutes into the contest when BU's Sedrick Chin stole the ball from 40 yards out and went in one-on-one with Gomez, who made a diving save. The Terriers got on the board soon after, however, when a scramble for the ball in front of the net deflected in off a Brown header.
Boston University added an insurance goal later in the first half as it kept Brown off the board the rest of the way. BU's Asa Frey sent a header over a diving Gomez off of a free kick to give the Terrier a two goal advantage.
The Bears had many opportunities to get back into the game as they maintained control of the ball through most of the game. Brown's best chance came midway through the second half when a wide-open shot just bounced wide of the net. Freshman Ben Brackett (West Des Moines, IA) led the Bears with four shots.
Brown continues action on Saturday Oct. 4 at 11 a.m. when it travels to Columbia for its Ivy League opener.
