Conway, SC - The Brown men's soccer team rebounded back from a frustrating 1-0 loss on Friday with a 2-0 shutout over VCU in the final round of the Coastal Carolina/adidas Invitational on Sunday. Junior Ben Brackett recorded the game-winning goal ten minutes into the match and assisted on the Bears second goal, scored by senior Jamie Granger, later in the first half. The team improves to 4-3 on the season, heading into Ivy League play next weekend.Brackett, junior Brian Joyce and sophomore Laurent Manuel were named to the All-Tournament Team as the Bears finished third.
The Bears put an abrupt stop to their inability to finish on the offensive end by scoring on their very first shot of the game. Freshman Scott Geppert fed Bracket the ball and beat the keeper with his shot to the left inside corner. From then on Brown never looked back as freshman Jarrett Leech was impressive in his collegiate debut. The rookie posted four saves, including three in the second, to preserve the shutout. Granger booted in an insurance goal at the 33:42 mark for the Bears after a give and go with Brackett on the right side.
With three shutouts this season, the stout Brown defense has not allowed more than one goal in a game since its season-opener against Hartwick back on Sept. 2. The team will now look to its Ivy League season, which will begin next Saturday at Columbia.
