New Haven, CT - The Brown men's soccer team won its second straight game Sunday afternoon, defeating Vanderbilt 5-1. The Bears scored five unanswered goals, including four in the second half. Brown improves to 2-1-1 on the season, while Vanderbilt falls to 1-6-0.
Vanderbilt got on the board first early in the game but Brown responded quickly in the 13th minute when junior Edward Thurston passed to senior Omar Macedo on a breakaway. Macedo flipped the ball to senior Eduardo Romaneiro for the goal to knot the game at 1-1.
Brown did not waste any time, breaking the tie in the first minute of the second half when freshman Keith Caldwell played the ball to junior Adom Crew behind the defense. Crew flipped the ball past Vanderbilt's goalie to give the Bears a 2-1 advantage.
In the 60th minute of the game, sophomore Marcos Romaneiro played the ball to freshman Ibrahim Diane on the right side. Diane served the ball to Crew on the far post for the goal. Crew totaled ten points at the weekend tourney on five goals (three against Alabama A&M on Friday and two on Sunday).
The Bears increased their lead 4-1 in the 78th minute when junior Seth Quidachay-Swan score from six yards out. Diane picked up his second assist of the day on the play. Brown tacked on one more goal in the 82nd minute when senior Evan Ryan passed to Diane, who dribbled past Vanderbilt's goalie out of the box for the easy goal.
Brown will be back in action on Saturday Sept. 28 when it hosts Harvard at 4 p.m. for its first Ivy League game of the season.
