#17 Men's Soccer Stays Undefeated With 1-0 Win Over Creighton At Yale Classic
Sept. 20, 2003
New Haven, CT - The 17th ranked Brown men's soccer team remains undefeated this season with a 1-0 win over Creighton University at the Yale Classic on Friday, Sept. 19, improving its record to 3-0. Senior Adom Crew (Columbia, MD) scored the lone goal of the game midway through the second half to lift the Bears past the Bluejays, who advanced to the NCAA College Cup Final Four one year ago.
The victory marks the second time in a week the Bears have knocked off a 2002 College Cup team. The loss drops Creighton, which is ranked 15th in the nation on the Soccer America poll, to 2-3-2 on the season.
Creighton out-shot Brown 14-3 but the difference came at the 66:54 mark when Crew emerged from a scramble for the ball in front of the net and knocked his third goal of the season past Bluejay goalie Guido Leon for the win. Freshman Andrew Daniels (Milwaukee, WI) earned an assist on the play.
Gomez had a stellar game in net for Brown, stopping all nine of Creighton's shots on goal, including back-to-back saves from point-blank range with less than 15 minutes left in the game. The shutout was the seventh of his career.
Brown will continue action at the Yale Classic on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 12 noon. The Bears will battle Fairleigh-Dickinson, which defeated Yale 1-0 on Friday, for the Tournament Title.
