Bears Cruise To 5-0 Victory Over St. Peter's

Sept. 4, 2005

Storrs, CT - Scoring its most goals in a game since the 2002 season, the Brown men's soccer team cruised to its first victory of the season, 5-0, over St. Peter's in the final day of competition at the UConn-adidas Tournament. Sophomore Kevin Davies scored two goals while freshman Scott Geppert and junior Ian Premo recorded the first goals of their careers in the win. Junior Ibrahim Diane notched two assists in the win as well. Brown will enter its own tournament, the eighth annual adidas-Brown Classic, next weekend with a 1-1 record.

Brown controlled play for nearly the entire first half and took advantage, going up 2-0. In the 12th minute of play, junior Andrew Daniels nearly gave the Bears their first goal of the game when he hit the goal post. Getting his own rebound, Daniels fired back only to have the shot deflected back by his own teammate.

One minute later, junior co-caption Matt Britner made good on his opportunity, giving Brown an early 1-0 lead. Junior Brian Joyce took a corner kick for the Bears as the ball fell to Britner's right foot from eight yards out. Britner's shot into the left post sailed by St. Peter's keeper Pat Nagawiecki. Freshman Scott Geppert gave Brown a 2-0 lead after a miss play by the defense, scoring his first collegiate goal at the 32:39 mark.

The second half saw even more scoring chances for Brown, the first coming in the opening minute when Britner's shot off a corner kick hit the crossbar. Just two minutes later, senior Ibrahim Diane set-up a brilliant play as he beat his man to the right side and left the ball for sophomore Kevin Davies directly in front of the net. The goal by Bernstein at 48:16, was the first of his career.

Brown took a big 4-0 advantage not long after when Davies went coast-to-coast up the far side of the field. Diane gained control of the ball just outside the box at the other end and passed off to Davies, who's shot went into the low left corner of the net.

A penalty kick by junior Ian Premo at the 72:21 mark, sealed the victory for the Bears and the first shutout for goalkeeper junior David Semenza, who collected three saves.

Brown will be back in action on Friday when it faces UNC-Greensboro at 7:30 p.m. in the first day of the adidas-Brown Classic. UConn will play George Mason prior to that at 5:00 p.m.
