PROVIDENCE, RI – The Brown men's soccer team hosted its Team banquet on Tuesday, February 5th, at the Faculty Club on the Brown campus. The Bears celebrated the 2012 season, highlighted by a 13-3-3 overall record and an appearance in the NCAA Second Round, and recognized six members of the team with awards.
The Cliff Stevenson Award is presented to the team's most valuable player. The award was established in 1968 in the name of Cliff Stevenson, who coached the Bears for 31 seasons, 1960–1990, with a record of 251-160-26. 2012 Award Recipient: Dylan Remick '13 (Inverness, IL)
The Captain John Sherman '62 Award is given to the current player who, by virtue of his exemplary dedication, mental and physical toughness, sense of duty and honor, best represents the legacy of Captain Sherman. 2012 Award Recipient: Ryan McDuff '13 (Plano, TX)
The William Margeson Coaches' Award is presented to the player who, through sportsmanship and character, made a unique contribution to the team. 2012 Award Recipient: Bobby Belair '13 (Myrtle Beach, SC)
The Class of 1937 Trophy is awarded to the player who contributed most to the team. Established in 1967, it is the oldest award the men's soccer team presents to a player. 2012 Award Recipient: Dylan Remick '13 (Inverness, IL)
The Britton Chichester Award is presented to the first-year player who best exemplifies sportsmanship through dedication, perseverance, fair play, leadership, spirit, and support of his teammates and coaches, as selected by his teammates. 2012 Award Recipient: Tariq Akeel '16 (Rochester Hills, MI)
The Thomas Gertken Award recognizes the top defensive player on the team, as voted by his teammates. 2012 Award Recipient: Eric Robertson '13 (San Antonio, TX)
The Heinz Kuebel Award is given to the best offensive player on the team, as voted by his teammates. 2012 Award Recipient: Thomas McNamara '12.5 (West Nyack, NY)
