PROVIDENCE R.I. – Brown University sophomore forward Ben Maurey (Downingtown, Pa.) scored two game-winning goals in victories over Boston College and No. 10 Cornell to earn Ivy League Player of the Week honors and a spot on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.
In an impressive 1-0 nonconference victory at Boston College last Tuesday evening, Maurey netted the game-winner with just 3:47 remaining in regulation. The No. 18 Bears then faced the No. 10 Big Red and defeated the squad 2-0 with Maurey scoring the game-winner just 4:34 into the match.
The victory over the Big Red was Cornell's first loss of the season as Brown snapped their 12-match winning streak. Brown moved to the top of the standings with 10 points, one better than Cornell and Dartmouth.
Maurey had tallied just one goal in his first 11 matches before his two goals last week. The second-year striker has made all three count this season as each was a gamewinner. He currently has eight points on the year (3g, 2a).
The Bears are back in action at Penn at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 27.
