Newton, MA- Sophomore forward Ben Maurey (Downingtown, PA) scored in the 87 minute to lift the No. 18 Brown men's soccer team to a 10 victory over the host Boston College Eagles on Tuesday evening at Newton Campus Field. The Bears improved to 10-1-2 on the year while BC dropped to 7-4-3.
Senior midfielder Thomas McNamara (West Nyack, NY) passed the ball up to Maurey, who touched the ball into free space and volleyed it with his left foot into the side netting past senior keeper Justin Luthey with 3:47 left in the game.
The win has increased Brown's unbeaten streak to nine consecutive games, with the Bears' last and only loss coming on Sept. 9 to Fordham (1-0).
Boston College dominated Brown in shots in the first 45 minutes of play, 8-2, but the Bears had a 7-3 advantage in the second period. The Bears had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks as well.
Senior goalkeeper Sam Kernan-Schloss (Arlington, VA) played 90 minutes and picked up four saves for his seventh shutout of the season, and the team's eighth overall, while Luthey posted three saves in the second period to move to 5-4-3 on the year.
Maurey led Brown's offense today with six shots, three of which were on goal. Tariq Akeel also recorded a shot on goal.
The Bears will now host No. 10 Cornell at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 20th.
