Seattle, WA – The Brown University men's soccer team travels to the west coast for the Husky Classic hosted at the University of Washington this weekend. The Bears will take on host Washington at 7 p.m. on Friday. Sept. 21, followed by a game against Portland at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23.
The Bears enter the weekend 5-1-0 on the year and are coming off two consecutive wins over Boston University (1-0 ot) and Lehigh (1-0). Brown's defense, led by goalkeeper Sam Kernan-Schloss (Arlington, VA) has given up just one goal and has recorded five shutouts. The squad ranks second in the nation in shutout percentage (0.83) and team goals against average (0.17). Kernan-Schloss is second in goals against average (.166) and third in the country in save percentage (.923).
Six different players have combined for the six goals scored this season, while Bobby Belair (Myrtle Beach, SC) and Dylan Remick (Inverness, IL) lead the team in points with three (1 goal, 1 assist). Belair was selected by College Soccer Madness as the 'Ivy League' Player of the Week, and freshman Tim Whalen (Amston, CT) earned the league's Rookie of the Week award after scoring the Bears' game-winning goal just one minute into overtime against Boston University. Also, senior captain Ryan McDuff (Plano, TX) was recently named a candidate for the Senior CLASS award.
Washington enters the weekend 4-2-1 overall and are coming off a 2-0 loss to UAB. The team's other loss was a 1-0 deficit to then-No. 4 Connecticut on Sept. 7.
Dylan Tucker Gangnes leads the Huskies in scoring with a team high five goals, while James Moberghas a team-high three assists. Spencer Richey has played all seven games in net (665:25) to combine for 19 saves and three shutouts. He has allowed six goals for a 0.81 goals against average.
