Providence, RI- Brown University men's soccer coach Patrick Laughlin has announced that Ryan McDuff '12 (Plano, TX) and Eric Robertson '12 (San Antonio, TX) have been named team captains for the 2012 season after a vote by their teammates.
"Ryan and Eric are two outstanding leaders on the team and I am pleased that they have been selected as the 2012 captains," said Laughlin. "Ryan has been a starter from his very first collegiate game and will be a two-year captain. Eric is a two-year starter who earned Second Team All-Ivy honors this year. They are both hardworking, motivated young men who are great examples of the Brown men's soccer mentality."
McDuff has played and started in 40 consecutive games for the Bears in the last two seasons and has competed in every minute of every game this season. Robertson competed in 39 games for the Bears in the last two years and has scored two goals and tallied one assist in his career.
Both Robertson and McDuff played integral roles in helping the Bears capture an Ivy League title and earn an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. The Bears went as far as the Sweet 16 with victories over Fairfield and St. John's, as their stingy defensive unit shutout 11 teams.
The Bears will open up their 2012 season with the annual Ocean State Classic in which the University of Rhode Island, Providence College and Bryant all compete for state bragging rights.
