Men’s Soccer Falls to No. 13 Boston College

Providence, RI- The No. 13 Boston College Eagles (7-2-0) defeated the Brown men's soccer team (5-3-0) 2-0 on Tuesday evening on Stevenson Field. The Eagles snapped Brown's 17-game unbeaten streak on Stevenson Field, which dated back to the 2009-10 season.

Boston College scored its first goal of the game at the 57:50 mark when junior defender Colin Murphy set up freshman midfielder Diego Medina-Mendez for his third goal of the season. The Eagles built on their lead almost 20 minutes later at the 76:19 mark, when Charlie Rugg penetrated the Bruno defense and blasted one in the low left corner past junior goalkeeper Sam Kernan-Schloss.

The two teams played through a scoreless first half with both teams even in shots with five, but the Eagles outshot the Bears 5-3 in the second, including their two goals scored. Brown's Kernan-Schloss picked up two saves in goal, while BC's Justin Luthy stopped three of Brown's shots on net.

The Bears and Eagles went back and forth firing off shots in the first half, as the Bears had some solid looks from Sean Rosa, Austin Mandel, and TJ Popolizio. After the half and BC's first goal, Brown midfielder Evan Coleman fired off a shot at the 70:14 mark that would have evened the score, but Luthy made another save to keep the Bears off the scoreboard.

In all, the Eagles outshot the Bears 10-8, but earned just one corner kick to Brown's five.

After playing eight straight non-league games the Bears open their Ivy campaign on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Columbia in a 4:00 p.m. contest
