Providence, RI- The Brown University men's soccer team (5-2-0) will host No. 13 Boston College (6-2-0) at 7 p.m. tonight at Stevenson Field. The game can be viewed live via America One, and free audio and live stats will be provided.
The Bears are coming off its fourth shutout of the 2011 season after a 2-0 victory over the visiting Boston University Terriers last Friday evening. Freshman defender Alex Markes (Valencia, CA) tallied his first career goal in the 33rd minute, while senior forward Sean Rosa (Montreal, Quebec) scored his third goal of the year in the 87th minute. Leading the defense was junior goalkeeper Sam Kernan-Schloss (Arlington, VA), who picked up four saves in the win to keep his record unblemished with a 2-0-0 record in net.
Leading the offense is senior forward TJ Popolizio (Rexford, NY) with six goals and one assist, followed by Rosa with three goals and one assist. Also scoring for Bruno this season has been Thomas McNamara (West Nyack, NY), Jose Salama (Madrid, Spain) and Markes.
The No. 13 ranked Eagles are coming off a 1-0 road victory against the University of Rhode Island last Friday evening. Junior Charlie Rugg scored in just the second minute of play to earn his fifth goal of the year. Junior goalkeeper Justin Luthy stopped 12 shots in goal to lead the defense and help BC earn its third shutout of the year.
Amit Aburmad leads the BC offense with five goals and five assists, followed by Charlie Rugg with five goals and two assists.
The Bears and Eagles are meeting tonight for the 27th time, as Brown leads the all-time series 13-10-3. The last time these two teams met was last season, Nov. 18, 2010, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bears defeated the Eagles 2-1, with goals by Jon Okafor'11 and senior Austin Mandel.
