Providence, RI- The No. 11 ranked Brown men's soccer team will travel to Providence College on Friday, Sept. 2 to take on the Friars at noon in the semifinals of the second annual Ocean State Soccer Classic. The winner of the PC/Brown match will play the winner of the Bryant/Rhode Island game. The games are scheduled for 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Monday Sept. 5 at the University of Rhode Island.
The Bears are coming off a 12-4-4 season and made their 25th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Bears advanced to the Sweet 16 with victories over Boston College and UConn, only to fall to the California Bears.
Brown returns nine starters from last year's squad, including First Team All-Ivy defender Dylan Remick and First Team All-Ivy forward Sean Rosa. Rosa led the attack with 17 points on six goals and five assists.
Providence (1-1) is coming off its first win of the year after defeating Quinnipiac, 2-1, on Monday on the strength of Wilder Arboleda's game-winner in the 70th minute. However, the Friars dropped its season opener to Northeastern, 2-1.
Last year, the Friars captured the Ocean State Soccer Classic title by defeating Rhode Island and by tying Brown, 0-0 in double overtime. To crown a champion, the teams had a penalty kick shootout, and Providence came out on top, 5-4.
