Sam Groves Named Assistant Soccer Coach at Brown
Providence, RI- Brown University men's soccer coach Patrick Laughlin has announced the addition Sam Groves to his coaching staff. Groves, a former four-year letter winner at the University of Hartford, will serve as a volunteer assistant coach with the Bears.
"I am very happy that Sam has decided to join the staff here at Brown," said Laughlin. "He is a bright young coach who will bring a great deal of enthusiasm and energy to the program."
A native of Sutton, Mass., Groves made 60 career starts and served as a team captain during his senior season with the Hawks. Selected to play in the NEISL All-Star game in 2010, Groves helped lead Hartford to a 27-29-13 overall record, which included three consecutive appearances in the America East tournament (2007-2009).
Groves finished his career with 10 points on a pair of goals and six assists and helped the Hartford defense shut out 22 opponents as a midfielder. A two-time America East Academic Honor Roll selection, and a Commissioner's Honor Roll member in 2009, Groves graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences with a degree in history.
