Providence, RI- The No. 14 Brown University men's soccer earned a 3-1 victory over visiting Hartwick College on Tuesday night at Stevenson Field. The Bears improved to 8-1-3 on the year, while the Hawks dropped to 2-10-1 overall.

The Bears wasted little time in getting on board as senior captain David Walls (Leeds, England) drilled in a free kick just 4:35 into the game. Taken just outside the goal box, Walls kicked the ball high and into the left corner of the net passed freshman goalkeeper Lee Fenner to take an early 1-0 lead.

Brown added to its lead just 15 minutes later as junior forward Sean Rosa (Montreal, Quebec) tallied his sixth goal of the season in the 19th minute. Sophomore defender Dylan Remick (Inverness, IL) got the ball to junior Austin Mandel (Tarzana, CA) who squared up and took a shot on goal. Rosa intercepted the ball and redirected it into the opposite corner to boost the Bears lead to 2-0.

Hartwick tried to make things interesting when in the 24th minute sophomore midfielder Greg Mathers dribbled through the normally stingy Brown defense and blasted a shot to the low right corner that got by a diving Paul Grandstrand (Orono, MN) to put the score at 2-1 at the half.

Walls tallied his second goal of the season eight minutes into the second half after freshman defender Eric Robertson (San Antonio, TX) passed the ball up, which then bounced over Fenner's head. Walls was there following up and knocked the ball into the empty net to put the Bears ahead 3-1 and eventually win the game.

The Bears outshot Hartwick 22-14, including 10-5 in the first half, and out-cornered the Hawks 10-4. Grandstrand picked up six saves in goal today and improved to 8-1-3 with the win, while Fenner posted five saves tonight and dropped to 1-3-0.

Brown is back in action this weekend when it hosts Cornell at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23.
