Men’s Soccer Defeats Boston University, 2-0

Boston, MA- Junior T.J. Popolizio and sophomore Bobby Belair each scored their first goals of the season to lead the Brown University men's soccer team (4-0-2) to a 2-0 victory over host Boston University (3-3-1) on Sunday night at Nickerson Field.

Coming off a thrilling 2-1 victory over visiting No. 24 Indiana on Friday night, the Bears showed no signs of tired legs as they continued their hot play to remain unbeaten.    While the Terriers came out with a lot of intensity and fired off six shots to Brown's one in the first 20 minutes of play, Brown's defense remained solid throughout and shut down any chances the Boston University offense could put together.

It wasn't until the 43rd minute of play that the Bears would find its first goal of the night.  Popolizio, with assistance from both Belair and Austin Mandel, blasted one in the hight right corner past BU's Brandon Biggs to give the Bears a 1-0 edge heading into halftime.

Six minutes into the second half, junior Jay Hayward came down the field on the left side and passed the ball up to Belair, who headed one to the high left corner past Biggs to put the score at 2-0.

The Terriers outshot the Bears 17-9, with each team tallying three shots on goal, as Boston University also led 9-2 in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Paul Grandstrand earned the win in net with three saves in 90 minutes to improve to 4-0-2, while Briggs recorded just one save in tonight's game.

Brown is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 25 when it takes on Vermont at 1:00 p.m.  Then, the Bears open Ivy League play at home against Columbia at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2.
