Providence, RI- The Brown University men's soccer team will host No. 24-nationally ranked Indiana at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17. The Bears enter the week 2-0-2 on the year, while the Hoosiers have earned a 2-2-0 record.
The Bears, taking on its first nationally ranked opponent of the season, have yet to surrender a goal. Brown is coming off a Brown Soccer Classic Championship after a 1-0 victory over South Carolina and a 0-0 double overtime draw against Hofstra. The only Ivy League team who has not allowed any goals, Brown leads the league in corner kicks (26), shutouts (4), and goals against (0).
Juniors Rob Medairos (Stafford, VA) and Evan Coleman (Amherst, MA), and sophomore Eric Robertson (San Antonio, TX) were named to the All-Tournament team, while junior Sean Rosa (Montreal, Quebec) was named the Offensive MVP.
Senior Paul Grandstrand (Orono, Minn.) was named the Ivy League Player of the Week after his unblemished performances this past week, as he earned a 1-0-2 record in 310:00 minutes to lead Brown's defense. Offensively, juniors Taylor Gorman (Freeport, ME) and Rosa have tallied two goals apiece, while senior Jon Okafor (Verona, NJ) has added one.
Indiana has faced some tough competition so far and has picked up victories against #5 UCLA (5-1) and #22 Drake (2-0). However, the Hoosiers lost their season opener at home to California (2-1) and also suffered a 1-0 loss to Cal Poly.
Will Bruin's nine points on four goals and one assist ranks second in the Big Ten and leads the Hoosiers offense, while Andy Adlard has six points on two goals (both game-winners) and two assists. Goalkeeper Luis Soffner (2-2-0) has allowed four goals (0.96 GAA) and has eight saves (.667 SV%) in 276:53 minutes of play to lead Indiana's defense.
