Providence, RI- Brown senior goalkeeper Paul Grandstrand (Orono, MN) led the men's soccer team to a 1-0-2 record last week by recording three shutouts to earn Ivy League Player of the Week honors.
With two of Brown's three games ending in ties, Grandstrand played 310:00 minutes and stopped all 13 shots he faced. His week began by shutting out Providence College in a 0-0 draw that saw the senior make five saves. Grandstrand then turned aside five more shots in Brown's 1-0 win against South Carolina, and finished the week with three saves in the Bears' scoreless tie against Hofstra. His performances against South Carolina and Hofstra enabled the Bears to be named Co-Champions of the 2010 Brown Soccer Classic.
Grandstrand has led a Brown team that has not allowed a goal four games into the 2010 season, and his four shutouts give him 17 for his collegiate career.
Both Grandstrand and the Bears will look to extend its streak into Friday, Sept. 17 when it takes on No.18-nationally ranked Indiana at 7:00 pm.
