Providence, RI- Matches against five teams that participated in the 2009 NCAA Tournament and three that were ranked in the final NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Top 25 Poll, highlight the upcoming 2010 season of Brown University men's soccer. Under the direction of first-year head coach Pat Laughlin, the Bears will host 10 home dates at Stevenson Field, including its annual Brown Classic on Sept. 10-12.
"We are excited to announce our 2010 game schedule," said Laughlin. "In addition to the rigors of the Ivy League, we play some of the most prestigious programs in the country. We have some very exciting home games this fall at Stevenson Field and I believe that this highly competitive schedule will provide an outstanding challenge for our team."
From the final NSCAA poll, Brown will host No. 20 Indiana on Sept. 17 and then No. 21 St. John's in a mid-week contest on Oct. 5. The Bears will also take on No. 9 Harvard in an Ivy League match on Oct. 16.
Brown kicks off its season on the road when it travels to in-state rival Bryant on Sept. 3 in the inaugural Ocean State Cup in Smithfield. The Bears will then compete on Sept. 6 against either Providence College or the University of Rhode Island.
Then, the Bears will be back in Providence to host its annual Brown Soccer Classic on Sept. 10-12. The tournament pits Brown vs. the Gamecocks of South Carolina on Sept. 10 and the Bears will conclude the tournament with a game against Hofstra on Sept. 12.
After its game against the Hoosiers on Sept. 17th, the Bears hit the road for games against Boston University on Sept. 19 and then Vermont on Sept. 25. Brown then hosts back-to-back contests against the Ivy League's Columbia on Oct. 2 and St. John's on Oct. 5 before it travels to Princeton for a contest on Oct. 9.
In the final stretch of the season, the Bears will play at home in five of its last seven games, which includes Harvard (Oct. 16), Hartwick (Oct. 19), Cornell (Oct. 23), Holy Cross (Oct. 26) and Yale (Nov. 6) at Stevenson Field, and then Penn (Sept. 30) and Dartmouth (Nov. 13) are on the road.
