• Men’s Soccer Announces 2011 Schedule

    Providence, RI- Brown University men's soccer coach Pat Laughlin has recently announced his team's 2011 schedule. A total of 17 games will be played, including seven on Stevenson Field. The Bears finished the 2010 season 12-4-4 overall and ranked 10th in the nation after falling in the third round of the NCAA Tournament to the No. 6 California Bears.

  • Patrick Laughlin Completes First Year as Brown Men’s Soccer Coach

    Providence, RI- Patrick Laughlin completed his first year as Brown University’s head men’s soccer coach as he was hired one year ago on March 16, 2010. This past season, Laughlin guided the Bears to a 12-4-4 overall record, while going undefeated at Stevenson Field with a 9-0-3 record. Brown made its 25th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, as well as its first trip to the Sweet 16 since 2000 with a home victory over Boston College and a 7-6 penalty-kick win in Storrs against UConn. Seven Bears earned All-Ivy recognition, three were Division I NEISL All-Stars, four received All-Northeast Region honors, and one was invited to the MLS Player Combine. Laughlin sat down and reflected on the past season and talked about the upcoming year.

    Carson, Calif. – Former Brown soccer standout Jeff Larentowicz and the U.S. Men’s National Team opened 2011 with a 1-1 draw against Chile this afternoon at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Larentowicz, a center midfielder for the Colorado Rapids, started and played the entire game today against Chile.
  • Cliff Stevenson Receives NSCAA Bill Jeffrey Collegiate Long-Term Service Award

    Providence, RI- Former Brown University men’s soccer coach Cliff Stevenson received the Bill Jeffrey Collegiate Long-Term Service Award tonight at the 2011 NSCAA Awards Banquet in Baltimore, Md. The award is named after the former Penn State soccer coach who played a major role in shaping soccer and the NSCAA. Each year, the NSCAA presents this award to a person who has raised intercollegiate soccer to new heights through his or her long-term dedication to the game.

  • Larentowicz Invited to US Men’s National Team Camp

    Providence, RI- Former Brown men’s soccer standout Jeff Larentowicz ’05 has been recently invited to the US Men’s National Camp starting Jan. 4 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Larentowicz, one of just 24 players on the training camp roster, will prepare for the USA’s first match of 2011, a friendly against fellow FIFA World Cup Finalists Chile on Jan. 22. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. PT, with broadcast information to be announced at a later date.
  • Brown Soccer Ranks 10th in Final NSCAA Rankings

    Providence, RI – The Brown University men’s soccer team finished the 2010 season 10th overall in the final NSCAA Division I poll. The Bears finished the year with a 12-4-4 overall record, including an undefeated 9-0-3 record at home, and earned its 25th NCAA appearance under the direction of first-year head coach Patrick Laughlin. Brown advanced to the “Sweet 16” of the tournament, which is the farthest the team has gotten in nine years.

    Seniors Paul Grandstrand (Orono, MN) and David Walls (Leeds. England), as well as junior Sean Rosa (Montreal, Quebec) and sophomore Thomas McNamara (West Nyack, NY) were named to the 2010 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Northeast Region team the association announced on Thursday. Grandstrand and Rosa received Second Team honors, while Walls and McNamara were named to the Third Team.

    Providence, RI- Brown University men’s soccer senior Jon Okafor (Verona, NJ) has been invited to participate in the 2010 adidas MLS Player Combine on Jan. 7-11 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Okafor is one of 54 college seniors from 36 Division I schools which were selected by a panel of Division I coaches in conjunction with MLS coaches.

    Providence, RI- The Ivy League released its fall list of Academic All-Ivy honorees, with 10 Brown student-athletes being recognized. The five males and five females were starters or key reserves on their respective varsity teams and carry a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.

The Bears finished the season with a 12-4-4 overall record and made its 25th appearance in the NCAA tournament, including its fifth in the last six years.

  • Three Bears Selected to N.E.I.S.L. Division I All-Stars

    Providence, RI- Seniors Jon Okafor (Verona, NJ), Paul Grandstrand (Orono, MN) and David Walls (Leeds, England) have been selected to the 2010 New England Intercollegiate Soccer League (NEISL) Division I All-Star team. The game will be hosted on Sunday, Nov. 28 at Harvard, but due to the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Tournament third round game, the Bears will be unable to participate. The Brown soccer squad was also a recipient of the Division I Men’s Top 10 Team Academic Award, as the team achieved a 3.39 team GPA.
  • Bears Travel to UConn for Second Round NCAA Tournament Game

    Providence, RI- After earning a 2-1 victory over Boston College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, the Brown men’s soccer team will take on Connecticut at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Morrone Stadium.   • Bears Defeat UConn in Penalty Kicks; Advance to Sweet 16

    Storrs, CT- The No. 22-ranked Brown University men's soccer team will advance to the Sweet 16 of the 2010 Division I NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament after defeating the #9 University of Connecticut in penalty kicks, 7-6, at Morrone Stadium. The last time the Bears advanced this far in the tournament was in 2000, when they fell to Connecticut, 1-0, in the quarterfinals.

    In the final game of the 2010 season at Stevenson Field in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, No. 14 Brown (12-3-3, 3-3-1 Ivy) took on No. 21 Boston College (10-5-5, 2-2-4 ACC), and even though the two teams had not met in over two years, it proved to be a hotly-contested match. The Bears got a goal early in the game and one late in the first half to take a 2-1 win and move to the Second Round.

Senior goalkeeper Paul Grandstrand (Orono, MN), sophomore Dylan Remick (Inverness, IL) and junior Sean Rosa (Montreal, Quebec) received First Team All-Ivy honors, while senior David Walls (Leeds, England) and sophomore Thomas McNamara were selected to the Second Team, and juniors Evan Coleman (Amherst, MA) and Rob Medairos (Stafford, VA) earned Honorable Mention.

T.J. Popolizio (Rexford, NY), Evan Coleman (Amherst, MA), Sean Rosa (Montreal, Quebec) and Kevin Gavey (Fairfield, CT) each scored goals to improve the Bears to 11-2-3 overall and move to 3-2-1 in the Ivy League. The Bulldogs dropped to 301102 on the year and fell to 1-4-1 in league play.
