The Records: 18th-ranked Brown upped its record to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the Ivy League with a 10-8 victory over Penn last Saturday. The 11th-ranked Big Green earned a 15-10 victory over #15 Yale on Wednesday to extend their record to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the Ivy League.
Bears Control Own Destiny In Ivy League: With just one Ivy League loss this season and games remaining against 11th-ranked Dartmouth, 6th-ranked Cornell and Princeton, Brown controls its own destiny in its quest for the Ivy League title. Cornell is currently in first place in the Ivy standings with a 4-0 Ivy mark followed by Brown (2-1), Dartmouth (2-1), Princeton (2-1), Yale (3-2), Harvard (1-3) and Penn (0-6).
Brown vs. Dartmouth - 49th Meeting: Brown and Dartmouth have met 48 times, dating back to 1926, with the Bears holding a 32-16 series advantage. Last year, Brown came away with a 9-6 victory over the Big Green in Providence. Dartmouth's last win over the Bears was in 2003 when the Big Green captured a 14-10 decision.
Nelson At The Helm: Head coach Scott Nelson, the 2004 New England Coach of the Year and winner of over 200 career games, is entering his fifth season as coach of the Bears, and 20th season as a collegiate head coach. His career record stands at 208-73.
About Brown: Senior Britton Derkac is coming off a solid week, scoring a career high four goals in Brown's 10-8 win over Penn, and adding three goals in a win over Harvard. His 13 goals rank third on this year's team... Junior Kyle Wailes, the Ivy League's assist leader (2.62 assists per game), netted a goal and handed out four assists against Harvard, and dished out three assists vs. Penn. His 29 ground balls leads all field players for Brown...Senior Chazz Woodson is Brown's top goal scorer with 17, sixth best in the Ivy League, and ranks second in scoring with 23 points. Woodson has garnered 103 career points at Brown (69 goals, 34 assists), and his 69 goals are 17th in the Brown record book... In 57 seasons of varsity lacrosse, Brown boasts a 387-263 (.595) overall record.... Junior goalie Nick Gentilesco made 13 saves against Harvard and 10 saves against Penn last week. He leads the Ivy League with a 7.10 goals against average and a save percentage of .628...Sophomore David Madeira is Brown's second leading goal scorer with 15 for the season. He netted three goals against Harvard last week...Senior middie Kirk Teatom ranks third in the Ivy League in face-off percentage, winning 71 of 131 face-offs (.546)... Brown will make-up its game against Hartford on Tuesday, April 26th at Stevenson Field, starting at 7:00 p.m...Senior Chris Mucciolo registered his 11th and 12th goals of the season against Penn.
2005 Season Dedicated To Ricky Whelan: The Brown lacrosse team has dedicated the 2005 season to former teammate Ricky Whelan '04, who passed away in January. Whelan was a four-year player for the Bears, who won the 2004 Brown Unsung Hero Award.
