Providence, RI - Brown University senior attackman David Madeira (Norwich, VT), who exploded for eight goals in wins over Bellarmine and UMass last week, has been named the Ivy League Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week.
Madeira, who helped Brown (4-1) earn its third and fourth straight wins, scored a career high five goals and added an assist in a 9-8 victory over Bellarmine at home on Tuesday. He came back on Saturday with three goals and an assist in the Bears' 7-4 victory over UMass in Amherst.
Madeira, a tri-captain of this year's team, missed most of Brown's pre-season and the Bears' first two games of the season due to injury. He leads the Bears in scoring with 11 points for the season (9 goals, 2 assists), despite playing in just three games.
An honorable mention All-Ivy selection a year ago, Madeira has been Brown's top goal scorer for the last two seasons, netting 21 goals last year, and 23 goals as a sophomore.
The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, March 24, opening their Ivy League season against Dartmouth in Hanover, New Hampshire.
