Providence, RI - Brown junior goalie Jordan Burke (Potomac, MD) has been named the Ivy League's Player of the Week in men's lacrosse for his spectacular performance in Brown's 4-3 win over UMass on Saturday.
Burke was the difference in the Bears' win over the Minutemen, making 16 saves in limiting the Minutemen to just three goals. Burke kept UMass scoreless for a span of 48 minutes and 19 seconds from the first quarter to the fourth quarter, making 12 saves over that time. He needed to be on, as the Minutemen peppered the Brown goal with 38 shots.
Burke's effort allowed the Bears to win with just four goals, the fewest goals scored in a Brown victory since 1933 when the Bears toppled Springfield by a 4-3 margin. He currently leads the Ivy League in save percentage (.696) and saves per game (12.80),a nd ranks second with a 5.85 goals against average.
The Bears will open up their Ivy League season next Saturday, March 22, hosting Dartmouth. Game time is 1:00 p.m. at Meister-Kavan Field.
