Providence, RI - Sophomore attackman David Madeira (Norwich, VT) scored three goals and sophomore Alex Buckley (Ridgewood, NJ) and senior Britton Derkac (Virginia Beach, VA) netted two goals each to lead the 20th ranked Brown men's lacrosse team to a 14-6 victory over Hartford Tuesday evening. 10 different Brown players scored goals as the Bears extended their record to 6-4 overall. Hartford fell to 2-11 overall.
After Hartford's Tom Harris gave the Hawks an early 1-0 advantage, Brown grabbed a 6-2 lead after one quarter, with Madeira and Derkac scoring two goals each, and senior Chazz Woodson(Virginia Beach, VA) and Buckley scoring one goal each.
The Bears scored three unanswered goals in the second quarter to extended their lead to 9-2 at the half on tallies by junior Will McGettigan (Alexandria, VA), sophomore Mike Bernard (Arlington, OH), his first of the season, and Buckley. Brown's biggest lead came at the 8:59 mark of the third quarter when Madeira's third goal of the game lifted the Bears to an 11-2 lead.
Several other Brown players netted their first goal of the season including senior Tony Frick (Newtown Square, PA), freshman Brian Asher (Chevy Chase, MD) and sophomore Tyler Gaffney (Madison, NJ). Junior Kyle Wailes (Toronto, Canada), the Ivy League assist leader, handed out three assists for the Bears.
Hartford was led by Matt Holman and Josh Wasson McQuigge, who scored two goals each. Freshman goalie Alex Finkleman faced 33 shots and made 5 saves.
The Bears return to Ivy League action on Saturday, April 30, against 6th ranked Cornell. It's senior Day at Brown and game time is 1:00 p.m. at Stevenson Field.
