Providence, RI - Junior Chazz Woodson (Virginia Beach, VA) scored three of his four goals in the first quarter to lead the 10th ranked Brown men's lacrosse team to a 15-5 victory over Hartford at Stevenson Field. The win extends Brown's record to 6-0 overall, while the Hawks fall to 0-8.
Freshman David Madeira (Norwich, VT) opened the scoring for Brown, netting the game's first two goals and starting a run of nine consecutive Brown goals to open the game. Following goals by senior Rich Tuohey (Annapolis, MD), freshman Will Davis (Falls Church, VA), and four by Woodson, sophomore Rory Hyland (Chevy Chase, MD) gave the Bears a 9-0 lead with 6:36 remaining in the second quarter.
Hartford senior Mike Gillis broke the ice for the Hawks, scoring with 5:55 left in the half. Freshman Tyler Gaffney netted his first career goal to give Brown a 10-1 lead at the half.
Overall, Gaffney, Tuohey and Madeira scored two goals each for Brown, while Davis, Grant Derkac (Virginia Beach, VA), Rich Whelan (Merion, PA) and Michael Bernard (Columbus, OH) scored one goal each. Sophomore Kyle Wailes (Toronto, Ont.) added three assists for the Bears.
Hartford was led by sophomore John Waterman, who netted two goals. Sophomore Mark Ross and sophomore Matt Holman also scored for the Hawks.
The Bears will be home again on Saturday, April 3rd for a showdown with third ranked Syracuse. Game time is 1:00 p.m. at Stevenson Field.
