Bears Toppled By #11 Notre Dame, 11-5

Notre Dame, IN - Freshman Ryan Hoff scored three goals and senior Matt Karweck added two goals to lead the 11th ranked Notre Dame men's lacrosse team to a 11-5 win over Brown at Moose Krause Stadium. The win lifts the Irish to 5-2 overall, while Brown falls to 2-5 for the season.
Despite out-shooting the Fighting Irish by a 14-10 first quarter margin, Brown fell behind, 2-0, after one quarter before senior Kyle Wailes (Toronto, Canada) scored on a pass from junior David Madeira (Norwich, VT) early in the second quarter (14:01) to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Irish scored four straight goals to grab a 6-1 lead at the half, and scored the first goal of the third quarter to lead by a 7-1 margin. Brown junior Michael Bernard (Upper Arlington, OH) scored his second goal of the season with junior Alex Buckley (Ridgewood, NJ) assisting, to cut the lead to 7-2 with 4:59 left in the third quarter.
Notre Dame opened a 10-2 fourth quarter before Buckley scored for the Bears with 12:20 remaining to pull to within 10-3 of the Irish. After an Irish goal made it 11-3, Buckley netted his second goal of the game with 7:30 left to play, and Bears' senior Will McGettigan (North Portsmouth, VA) scored with 32 seconds remaining to make the final, 11-5.
Senior Nick Gentilesco (Setauket, NY) made 13 saves in goal for the Bears.
Brown will have the weekend off from competition before returning to action for its Ivy League opener on April 8th at Yale.
