Brown Men's Laxers Fall To 5th Ranked Syracuse, 16-7

Syracuse, New York - The fifth-ranked Syracuse men's lacrosse team rallied from a 3-1 second quarter deficit to defeat Brown, 16-7, in the Carrier Dome.
After the Orangemen opened the scoring, Brown netted three unanswered goals, two in the first quarter and one in the second, to grab a 3-1 lead. Sophomore Chris Mucciolo (Manhasset, NY) scored first for the Bears, and senior Jon Thompson (Freeport, ME) gave Brown a 2-1 edge after one quarter. Sophomore Britton Derkac (Virginia Beach, VA) lifted Brown to a 3-1 margin just 18 seconds into the second quarter on a pass from sophomore Chazz Woodson (St. George, VA).
Syracuse scored four straight goals and six of the next eight goals, taking the lead for good, 4-3, on a goal by senior Mike Smith at the 10:24 mark of the second quarter. After holding a 7-5 halftime margin, the Orangemen outscored the Bears, 5-1, in the third quarter to take control of the game.
Brown junior goalie Mike Levin (Pittsford, NY) faced 44 Orangeman shots, making 19 saves. Thompson, Mucciolo and Derkac scored two goals each for the Bears, while Woodson also added a goal.
The Bears will be back in action on Wednesday at home for their Ivy League opener against Yale. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson Field.
