Providence, Rhode Island - Junior Brett Garber netted four goals to lead the 7th-ranked UMass men's lacrosse team to a hard-fought 13-9 win over Brown in a key New England match-up at Stevenson Field. The win lifts UMass to 4-1 on the season, while Brown falls to 2-3.

The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 advantage on goals by juniors Alex Buckley and David Madeira, before the Minutemen answered with four straight goals to grad a 4-2 lead with 1:37 remaining in the first quarter on Garber's first goal of the game.

Buckley and Madeira scored again for the Bears in the second quarter, but UMass added three goals to grab a 7-4 lead at intermission.

Brown battled back and cut the Minuteman lead to one goal, 7-6, on goals by Buckley and Will Davis to open the third quarter. Tow two teams exchanged goals with Jamie Yaman scoring for the Minutemen, and senior Kyle Wailes scoring for the Bears. After Garber scored to give the Minutemen a 9-7 lead, Madeira scored again for the Bears to cut the UMass lead to 9-8 with 54 seconds left in the third quarter.

Yaman broke the Bears' back with a goal with just three seconds left in the quarter and Garber scored early in the fourth quarter to lift the Minutemen to a 11-8 advantage with 11:49 remaining. The Bears made one last run on a goal by senior Will McGettigan with 9:41 left to play to make the score 11-9, but that was as close as the Bears would get with Garber and Yaman adding the final two goals for UMass.

Garber added an assist to go with his four goals, while Jim Connolly and Yaman added three goals each. Senior Sean Morris, the nation's top scorer, netted one goals and handed out two assists.
