Providence, Rhode Island - Sophomore attackman Kyle Hollingsworth (Darien, CT) scored an unassisted goal with 3:08 remaining in regulation to break an 8-8 tie and lift Brown to its third straight win, a 9-8 victory over Bellarmine. Bears' senior attackman David Madeira (Norwich, VT) led the Bears with a career high five goals in the game that was tied seven times and saw four lead changes.
The victory lifts Brown to 3-1 overall, while the Knights fall to 1-4 overall.
Brown fell behind by an 8-7 margin on a goal by Justin Norbraten early in the fourth quarter. The Bears bounced back and tied the game, 8-8, on Hollingsworth's first goal of the game with 6:48 remaining in regulation.
Hollingsworth scored the game-winning goal when he circled around the Bellarmine goal and beat Knights' goalie JC Hutchens with 3:08 left to play.
Brown held a 2-1 lead after one quarter, but Bellarmine grabbed a 6-5 lead at the half. The Knights grabbed their biggest lead, 7-5, on a goal by Bobby Snider early in the third quarter. Madeira answered for the Bears with his fourth and fifth goals of the game to tie the score, 7-7 after three quarters.
Madeira added an assist to go with his five goals to lead all scorers. In addition to Hollingsworth's two goals, senior Alex Buckley (Ridgewood, NJ) and freshman Thomas Muldoon (Oakton, VA) scored one goal each for the Bears. Sophomore Jordan Burke (Potomac, MD) registered six saves in goal for Brown.
Bellarmine was led by Bobby Snider, who scored two goals, while Ray Finnegan handed out three assists. Hutchens made 15 saves in goal for the Knights.
Brown will be back in action again on Saturday, traveling to Amherst, MA for a match-up against UMass, the 2006 national championship finalist. Game time is 1:00 p.m. at Garbor Field.
