Fairfield, Conn. - Junior Chazz Woodson (Virginia Beach, VA) scored four goalsand freshman Alex Buckley (Ridgewood, NJ) added three goals, including the game winner, to lead the unbeaten Brown men's lacrosse team to 12-7 victory over Fairfield, sending the Stags to their first loss of the season. The Bears are now 3-0 overall, while Fairfield drops to 3-1.
Brown jumped out to an early 2-0 lead off goals by Woodson and freshman Dave Madeira (Norwich, VT) before the Stags got on the board with a man-down goal with 6:36 remaining in the first period. Fifteen-seconds later, senior Charles Towers (Cold Spring Harbor, NY) made the score 3-1 and Woodson gave Brown its largest lead of the first-half, 4-1, seven seconds into the second period.
When Fairfield rallied to tie the game, 5-5, late in the third period, Buckley took over for the Bears, scoring with 10 seconds left in the third quarter, and then going on to score the first two goals of the fourth quarter, giving Brown an 8-5 lead. Senior Charles Towers completed to 4-0 Brown run, scoring with 10:47 remaining to lift Brown to a 9-5 advantage and put the game out of reach. Towers finished the game with two goals and one assist.
After three straight road games, the Bears will open their 2004 home season on Saturday, March 20 against the UMass Minutemen. Game time is 1:00 p.m. at Stevenson Field.
