Providence, Rhode Island - Senior middie Will McGettigan (Alexandria, VA) scored a career high four goals and senior attackman Kyle Wailes (Toronto, Ont.) added three goals to lead the Brown men's lacrosse team to a 9-6 victory over Bellarmine. The win evens the Bears record at 2-2 for the season, while Bellarmine falls to 1-2 overall.
Brown never trailed in the game and held its largest lead, 5-2, after one quarter of play on three goals by Wailes and two by McGettigan.
Bellarmine crept back into the game and trailed at the half, 7-5, after outscoring the Bears by a 3-2 margin in the second quarter, including a score with just six seconds remaining in the half on an unassisted goal by Ray Finneran, Junior David Madeira (Norwich, VT) and McGettigan scored goals for the Bears in the quarter.
The Knights' Garett Kikot scored the lone goal of the third quarter to narrow Brown's advantage to 7-6, heading into the final quarter.
Bears junior Will Davis (Falls Church, VA) broke a 32-minute scoring drought for the Bears, netting his first goal of the game with 7:28 remaining in the fourth quarter to lift the Bears to an 8-6 advantage. McGettigan added an insurance goal for the Bears with 46 seconds left in the game.
Brown senior goalie Nick Gentilesco (Setauket, NY) made seven saves for the game, but came up big when the game was on the line, making four fourth quarter saves.
In addition to his four goals, McGettigan added an assist, and captured 12 of 15 face-offs. Freshman Nic Bell (Catlett, VA) added two assists for the Bears.
Anderson scored two goals and handed out an assist for the Knights, while Kikot added two assists to go with his goal. Finnegan finished the game with two goals.
The Bears will be at home again next Saturday, March 18, against 9th-ranked UMass. Game time is 1:00 p.m. at Stevenson Field.
