David Evans '96, one of the greatest scorers in Brown lacrosse
history, has returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach for
the Brown men's lacrosse team. A two-time first team All-American
at Brown, Evans is a former Ivy League Player of the Year (1995)
and Rookie of the Year (1993), and joins the Bears as an offensive
coach following Brown's 2008 Ivy League Championship. "David brings
his own unique charismatic, never-ending enthusiasm back to Bruno,"
said Bears' head coach Lars Tiffany. "One of the few multiple
First-Team All-Americans in our history. David was an instrumental
member of the Final Four team of 1994, and brings a wealth of
knowledge of the game of lacrosse for every position." A 1996
graduate of Brown with a B.A. in Political Science, Evans earned a
Master's degree in Education from Lesley University in 2006. He is
Brown's second all-time leading goal scorer (145), and his 232
career points (145 goals, 87 assists) ranks second in the Brown
record book. Evans became the first Brown sophomore to earn first
team All-America honors, being selected in 1994. He was a two-time
first team All-Ivy and All-New England selection, and team captain
for the Bears in 1995 and 1996. He was recognized as one of the
greatest players in Brown lacrosse history by being named to
Brown's All-Decade Team of the 1990's and to Brown's All-
Millennium Team in 2000. Evans enjoyed a successful professional
career, playing for the Boston Cannons. He joined the Cannons in
its inaugural season in the MLL, and was a six-time All-Star before
retiring in 2006. He won the league's fastest shot contest three
years in a row and holds the fastest shot (109 MPH) in the world.
He was the Cannon's Most Valuable Player in 2002 and Offensive MVP
in 2001. He is also the Cannon's all-time leading goal scorer
(133). He also played for the Baltimore Thunder (NLL) from
1997-1999. The owner and founder of Quality Lacrosse, Evans also
worked as an assistant coach for the Brown women's lacrosse team
(2006) and as the head varsity boy's lacrosse coach at the Wheeler
School from 2004-2007.
